A Warm Welcome to Randy Mosley! Randy recently moved into the Larsen's basement apartment on Wasatch Drive and is thrilled to be living in Mountain Green. Randy has worked since he was 16-years old and is excited to finally be retired and living near his 2 sons and 7 grandkids who love to be with Grandpa Randy. He was raised in Green River Wyoming where he hunted with his dad and played sports including football, basketball, baseball, and wrestling. At age 15 he moved to Sunset with his step-mom and three sisters when his father passed away. By necessity he went to work to help support the family while he finished up high school at Clearfield. He eventually became a sales manager covering several western states, and enjoyed coaching his boys in sports. Randy currently volunteers as a mentor for youth and has taken humanitarian trips to help communities in Guatemala. He is happy to talk with anyone who struggles with substance abuse, addictions, depression, thoughts of suicide, or anxiety. When asked what advice he would give to young people, Randy said, "Always respect the people you're around, even if they're different. You never know what life has thrown at them. And never lie to your parents. It will be better in the long run if you play it straight." Randy loves the mountains and nature where he goes to find peace and beauty. He looks forward to helping others out and being a part of the Highlands community. We're grateful you are here!
Happy February to All!
Join Highlands Book Group: Every 1st Tuesday at 1pm! The Highlands has had a Book Group for 19 years. We started out with about 15 women ages from 60 to 80. Several have moved for various reasons, jobs, new home, and going to meet loved ones who have passed on. We need more readers. Our books come from the Utah State Library at no cost to us. They have a huge selection of books for us to select from. We order 10 each month - but we could order as many as 15. We meet in the homes of our members on the first Tuesday of the month- every month- once in a while it is a different day because of holidays. We meet at 1:00 for about an hour and a half, depending on how much visiting needs to be done. We discuss the book we read first and then solve the problems of the world. The book for the next month is passed out. We also snack on a treat provided by the hostess. In February we are meeting at Fay Hansen's home to discuss "All the Ways We Said Goodbye." In March we will meet at Carole McCain's to discuss "Desert Excile". This is about the Internment Camps in the US during WWII. For more information, please call Carole McCain at 801-876-3282. You can stop by our house which is behind the Little Free Library and visit with me.
Caught by the Camera. Betsy Macken and Fay Hansen. You'll often see Betsy and Fay out on walks, enjoying the Highlands, and getting some fresh air and exercise.
Congrats to Lance Loughton. Lance won the regional invitational golf tournament in Palm Springs and has now qualified for national finals in Louisiana!
Spotlight on Tasha. This is Tasha, a 7 year-old American Eskimo who belongs
to Shannon Bell and lives at 5831 Wasatch Drive. American Eskimos are friendly
and also protective. Shannon's parents had several American Eskimos as Shannon
was growing up, and he inherited Tasha from them. Tasha likes to have a routine
she can count on, and the routine needs to include lots of time to snuggle with
Shannon on the couch. She loves to visit her dog friends, including Tip who
lives up the street and Muffin who lives on a large property where the two of
them can run and explore and sometimes get into trouble. Fortunately, the
German Shepherd who lives there doesn't let them get too close to the cows or
the cows too close to them. She also loves to go on hikes at Snow Basin. She's uneasy riding on cars, but is ok with
Shannon in his jeep as long as she can sit right behind him. She loves chasing
and barking at the snow from the snow blower in the winter; it's a treat to
watch her as she does this and to see the pure joy she is feeling! And after a full day of exercise, she loves
to relax and chew on nylabones, rope toys and rubber balls.
