Spotlight on Mark and Juliet Jones.Mark
grew up in the house he now lives in. But after graduating
from Morgan High he went adventuring for almost three decades – returning in
2011 to purchase his parents’ home on Highland Drive. His adventuring
included construction work in Utah, Airforce basic training in Texas, technical
training in Colorado, a 16-mo deployment to Turkey, a 2-yr deployment to the
Netherlands where he met Juliet, and a little over two decades teaming with his
sweetheart Juliet to raise their three children in Florida. Juliet grew up in
England, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the Netherlands. After high school she
attended the University of Maryland in Japan earning a business degree with a
minor in English (she loves to read). Then she moved to the Netherlands and went
on a blind double date where she met Mark. She loved how gentle, caring and
protective Mark was – and it didn’t hurt that he drove an awesome Trans-Am muscle
car. Mark remembers how beautiful Juliet was with her blonde hair and how conversational,
intelligent, and personable she was. They married and moved to Florida to be by
Juliet’s family. After 23 years, they decided to move to Utah to enjoy four
seasons and the mountains that Mark grew up with. Mark still loves
four-wheeling up in the hills and the peace he feels being in nature. His
advice for living the good life includes taking time to be with family, following
your heart, doing what you love, and not sweating the small stuff.Mark works as an surgical nurse in Bountiful. Juliet
works in advancement at WSU. Juliet believes we’ll find more joy when we don’t get too overly focused
on material things, but rather focus on things of the soul. That is, focusing
on our own happiness sometimes doesn’t bring the joy that comes from caring
about other people and being a part of something larger than ourselves.
We’re so lucky to be neighbors with the Jones family!
Winter Block Party! Friends and neighbors gathered together at Austin & Nicole Larsen's house to enjoy one another's company and share some yummy soup, bread, and delicious deserts. A great time was had by all, especially after Austin and Leith retold their greatest fishing stories!
Morgan History: Did You Know?
First Peoples. This land, rich in timber, fish, deer, elk, birds, and more, offered many resources for humans. The Archaic culture and later Fremont culture probably lived on or traveled through the lands that later became Morgan County. Around 1100 AD, Numic people began to enter Utah. When settlers entered Utah, Utes and Shoshone people passed through and camped in the valleys and along the rivers. They often camped in a meadow near the confluence of Peterson Creek and the Weber River. Settlers called the area “Wickiup” because of the wickiup shelters Native American people built in this area.

Spotlight on Jake, Axel, and Lucky! These three live with Mark and Juliet Jones at
6270 Highland. Jake is an 8 1/2 year old Blue Heeler; Axel is a 4 1/2 year old
Doberman; and Lucky is an 18 year old black cat. Lucky is very comfortable
around dogs even though he was rescued from a junk yard where he'd been injured
by a dog. He's a loving cat and knows that most dogs are not like that dog. He
knows the dogs in Mark and Juliet's house are no threat, and loves to curl up
and sleep with them. They found Jake at Animal Care of Davis County. He'd been
returned because he was "too energetic"; he didn't know what petting
was, and he was afraid of treat bags. But thanks to Mark and Juliet's loving
patience, he now puts a paw on them if he's not being pet enough! Within a year of adopting Jake, they adopted their
wonderful Doberman, Caiden, and the two became best friends. When Caiden died
suddenly and unexpectedly in February 2023, they weren't sure if they were
ready for another dog, but Jake was too lonely. So they found Axel through the
Community Animal Welfare Society (CAWS) in May 2023. He had Valley Fever,
Kennel Cough, pneumonia and a broken
right front foot. CAWS and then Mark and Juliet nursed him back to health and
now he and Jake are best friends. Jake loves to play with toys, and Axel loves
to play with his blanket, especially when he thinks dinner is taking too long
to be served. Dobermans have a thin coat and get cold easily, so Axel wears a
coat for the winter months and sleeps under a blanket. Axel, like other
Dobermans, has FOMO -- Fear Of Missing Out. He's always on high alert for
anything unusual or any new activity. With the house being above the road, he
has a great view of the street and takes his job as neighborhood watch very
seriously.

40 th Anniversary: Remembering How Tracy Chapman Brought the World Together. Forty years ago, on April 5, 1985 (Good Friday), radio stations worldwide united to broadcast We Are the World , the charity anthem supporting African famine relief. Thousands stopped simultaneously and came together in a moment of unity—all because of an idea that came from the heart and mind of our own neighbor, Tracy Chapman. 5,000 stations around the world participated in the event. Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, the song raised $8 million for USA for Africa and featured 46 artists, including Stevie Wonder, Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross, Billy Joel, and Bruce Springsteen. President Reagan commented on hearing the song for the first time aboard Air Force One. The broadcast became a global phenomenon, with people gathering to sing along—hundreds at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York and outside Richmond’s City Hall. Radio networks from New York to Salt Lake City to Detroit joined in. This w...
