Farewell to Ken Clark. We will miss Ken who passed away on March 27, 2024. Ken was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was quick-witted and always good with a story to make you laugh. Ken was a talented manufacturing engineer and used his design and practical know-how both at work and at home. He was always there to help a neighbor and serve his community. He will be missed, especially by his family and his “little slice of heaven” wonderful wife, Chris. Thanks for all the great memories and love, Ken.  https://www.leavittsmortuary.com/obituaries/Kenneth-Jon-Clark?obId=31099359

Spotlight on Rick & Mary Lofgren.  Rick was born in SLC. At age 14, Rick bought two old cars and got them running. He’s been fascinated with auto mechanics, carpentry, and the trades ever since. He served a mission in St. Louis, then worked all kinds of trades, and eventually became a high school woodshop teacher. Rick makes beautiful furniture and has taught at the prison & special needs woodshop. Newsflash: He retires at the end of this school year!  Mary was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mary went to nursing school and has been serving as a nurse for 45 years. She has specialized in cardiac care and critical care. She has also been a mentor of many young nurses over the years. She is a self-described “super nerd, obsessed with history, reading, and gospel study.” Her favorite hobby is making special cakes for weddings and birthdays. She met Rick on a back-country ski trip in Driggs Idaho. They were both hard-core outdoor adventurers. They married in the Manti Temple and last month went through the open house. Their honeymoon was a backpacking trip to Bears Ears. They were looking for an outdoorsy place to live and eventually made their way to Mountain Green in 1998, where they raised their son Leif. Rick believes that family and knowing your family roots are important. He’s enjoyed serving others in the neighborhood with his handy-man skills. Mary has a gift for understanding others and has developed her healing and caring skills as a nurse. She believes her struggles in life have developed a sense of empathy and have made her stronger.  Mary and Rick have recently decided to go on a mission as a couple to Philadelphia where Mary will serve as a nurse and Rick will use his technical and handyman skills. They are also going to Philly to find the best cheesesteak sandwiches! Rick and Mary never tire of the beauty of the mountains and the wonderful people here in Mountain Green. Best wishes in this next chapter in your lives.  Thanks for the love and care you’ve given to friends and neighbors here in the Highlands for over 25 years!

Spotlight on Tip, Chevie and Gizmo. They live with Lynn and Sue Peterson at 6436 Davis Street. Tip, affectionately referred to as “Tipicans” is a two year-old Boarder Collie. Chevie is a 5 month old Dachshund and Gizmo the Tabby kitty cat was a shelter rescue, age unknown. They got Tip as a puppy from a lady who likes boarder collies and lives just up the road in Henefer.  Chevie recently came into the family as a Christmas puppy and has brought so much laughter and joy to the family! Tip and Chevie in a very short time have become the best of friends and play together nonstop. Tip keeps an eye on little Chevie when they go outside and they both like to bark at all the turkeys. Tip loves to go on long adventurous walks with Lynn out in the wilderness and he loves playing in the snow and water.  Tip has two girl doggie friends in the neighborhood that he visits often, Sadicans owned by Dennis & Jennifer Wolf (Davis St) and Tasha owned by Shannon Bell (Wasatch Dr). He loves them along with John and Sue Waycuilis (Weber Dr) they are such good friends!  Lynn says Tipicans has no manners but he is happy and Lynn loves Tipicans something fierce just the way he is!! Chevie really likes going for walks with Tip and feels so grown up close by his side.  Gizmo quietly sneaks in the room with the two of them keeping them company from a distance while they are rambunctiously delighting in each other’s company.

Block Party on Uintah. The neighborhood good times keep rolling. Neighbors on Uintah Street gathered together for a “soup & bread” dinner. It was fun for neighbors to enjoy good food and one another’s company!

Highlands Helpers. Thanks to great neighbors who help one another here a little and there a little as needs arise, including those who helped with Ken Clark’s funeral and with Heidi Hugie’s move to Morgan. We wish Heidi the best in this next chapter of her life!
