Spotlight on Karen Palmer. Karen was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 5th grade she moved to HAFB and attended three high schools: Layton, Ogden, and Clearfield. One day she was reading a “help wanted” newspaper called the Davis County Happy Ads and saw an ad placed by a man looking for childcare for his two boys. The man’s wife had passed away and he needed someone to help. Karen answered the ad and showed up to interview him wearing a t-shirt that said, “Never underestimate the power of a woman!” The two clicked and Karen married the man, Dave Palmer. They shared 43 wonderful years together. The love of her life, Dave, recently passed away in 2021. Over those 43 years they lived on base at Hill, in Layton, the Philippines, Texas, Washington DC, and Mountain Green. While in the Philippines, Karen volunteered knitting baby booties and blankets for military wives who had newborns. Also while in the Philippines, the two boys she raised with Dave graduated from high school. In addition to being a mom, Karen has worked as a mechanic, oil seismographer, CNA, CMA, EMT, radiology tech, and taxi driver! Karen is a wonderful neighbor with a big smile, a caring personality, always a kind word to share, and so much love to give. We are blessed to have Karen Palmer as our neighbor in the Highlands.

Block Party on Davis Street. The neighborhood good times keep rolling. Neighbors on Davis Street, Cache Circle, etc. gathered together for brunch and a celebration of springtime. It was fun for neighbors to enjoy good food and one another’s company!

Spotlight on Drake and Ole.  Drake and Ole live at 6226 Highland Drive with Zach, Jaimie and Addie Fritz. Drake is a Golden Retriever who Jamie found on KSL in Willard. We lost our 17-year-old German Shorthair that was Zach’s dog for 16 years. Zach was noticeably sad and Drake was a welcomed companion. Drake loves to do anything we are doing such as camping and fishing. His favorite thing is mountain biking – he gets so excited! Drake doesn’t like it when we vacuum. He thinks the vacuum is an enemy that must be dealt with. Both dogs think they are lap dogs. It’s especially interesting when Drake tries to sit on your lap because he weighs 90 pounds. Ole is an American Brittany. We got Ole as a distraction during the pandemic. We did not know what a DISTRACTION he would prove to be. He is by far the most challenging dog we have ever owned. Zach and I grew up with dogs and have had dogs all our lives. So we were up to the challenge. Ole’s drive to hunt and be outside takes over. He is smart and highly trainable. He likes to snuggle and we like that he likes to snuggle. Ole is the kind of dog that makes you grow as a human being because patience is a virtue. He likes to eat toilet paper when we are not looking. Ole prefers a chair or the couch to the floor and he sits up like a person. Because we travel with our dogs most of the time it’s made for some interesting hotel choices. They do not like being left behind.
