Spotlight on the Bartley Family. Dan & Brittany Bartley have enjoyed living in the Highlands in their beautiful log home since 2019. Dan was raised in Alabama, played football and basketball in high school, and was class valedictorian. Brittany graduated from high school in Virginia where she participated in track. After high school she earned a bachelors in business and her real estate license. After high school, Dan went to college at the Airforce Academy and then completed graduate programs in intelligence work. The couple met in Virginia. Brittany liked how humble and laid-back Dan was. Dan liked how outgoing and conversational Brittany was. After their marriage, they accepted military assignments in Virginia, Las Vegas, Qatar, Germany, Hawaii, and Utah. During these adventures they had six awesome children: Bryan (13), Henry (11), Georgia (9), August (7), Samuel (7), and Rowan (4). Dan currently serves full-time as a Lt. Colonel in the Air National Guard and was recently promoted to Group Commander at the military base near the Salt Lake airport. Brittany nurtures, teaches and provides amazing learning experiences for their children and manages their home. As a family they enjoy board games, card games, cooking, reading and hiking. This year they are hosting two foreign exchange students from Cambodia and Vietnam and are enjoying learning about their cultures and food. Brittany admires Dan's example of continually developing himself, working hard, playing hard, and how he acknowledges mistakes but gets back up and "gets it done." Dan appreciates Brittany's big heart and how she is always serving and trying to help others wherever she can. We are so grateful to have the Bartley family as wonderful neighbors here in the Highlands!

Recent Block Party: Betsy Macken and Lynda Whicker hosted their annual block party at the Whickers home. Good friends, good fun, and good food. Neighbors met on a fall evening as the sun peaked out from the clouds and the weather cleared up just in time.
Coming Soon: New Furry Feature! Beginning with our next newsletter issue, we'll be featuring our furry friends and pets that live with us here in the Highlands and bring us so much joy. We're grateful for Betsy Macken and Jennifer Wolf who have agreed to provide these spotlights. They'll work with block captains and friends to find out more about your dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, hamsters, parrots, and other animals. Questions might include: name, age, breed, how you found them, their favorite things to do, and their special qualities. Betsy and Jennifer may even interview a few wild turkeys to see how they feel about Thanksgiving.
PS. It may take quite a while to feature each family's pets, so thank you for your patience. That said, if you'd like your furry friend highlighted, don't hesitate to reach out to Betsy and Jennifer.
A Little History: Did You Know? Morgan County was created by the territorial legislature in 1862 and was named for Jedediah Morgan Grant. It has four major creeks (Lost Creek, East Canyon Creek, Hardscrabble Creek, and Cottonwood Creek) that feed into the Weber River. The first town in the county was Peterson (originally called Weber City); then came Littleton, and Morgan. Other early towns included Mountain Green, Enterprise, Stoddard, Milton, Mount Joy, Richville, Porterville, Round Valley, Devil's Slide, and Croyden.
