Grateful for the Blessings of Caring Friends and Neighbors. At this time of thanksgiving, we express gratitude to each of you for your neighborly caring and thoughtfulness. We are blessed to live among such terrific friends and neighbors here in the Highlands. Thank you for all you do to make this a wonderful community.

Welcome Ryan & Baylee! We are excited to welcome Ryan & Baylee Campbell to the Highlands. They live at the intersection of Highland Drive and Sierra Avenue. Ryan grew up near West Haven and Baylee was raised in Syracuse. They graduated from Fremont High School and met again at the gym after Ryan served his mission in Washington State and after Baylee lived, worked, and became an avid surfer in Hawaii. They’ve now been married for 18 months and live with their awesome golden doodle. Ryan works in the solar industry and Baylee has a consignment business. Ryan loves Baylee’s sweet, positive, and friendly personality, her work ethic and creative design skills – and that she is such a persevering go-getter. Baylee loves that Ryan is so outgoing, understanding, funny, open with everyone, a good listener, motivated worker, and focused on achieving his big dreams. They are both excited to be a part of the neighborhood and look forward to meeting everyone. Welcome Ryan & Baylee – we’re so glad you’re here!

Another Fun Highlands Block Party. Neighbors gathered together at the top of Gordon Creek Circle to enjoy good food, good friends, and good fun. They also said farewell to the Gappmayer’s who are now serving a mission in the Philippines for 18 months.

Neighborhood Christmas Party. Join us on Saturday, December 9, at 9:00am for our annual Highlands Christmas Breakfast. Bring a friend and enjoy the Christmas spirit of friendship together with neighbors. You are also welcome to bring a can of food to donate to the Morgan Food Bank if you’d like.

Congrats to Kristal & Mike Hardy! We are thrilled at the arrival of baby boy Leo Hardy. Kristal and Leo are doing well, and Mike is a very proud papa. Welcome Leo. You are blessed to have two wonderful parents and a community that will love you as you grow.

Spotlight on the Amazing Oz. This is Oz who belongs to Carole and Earl McCaine. They live at 5762 Wasatch. Oz is a 14-year-old Miniature Schnauzer. They got him as a puppy — officially for Carole’s birthday, but Earl wanted him just as much!  He has sweaters for different seasons, and today he has his Thanksgiving sweater on. He loves to go for walks and does his happy dance whenever the leash comes out. He then goes and stands by Carole’s side and waits patiently while she puts his leash on. He never goes outside without his leash on, even if the door is open. He’s very aware of the time for routine events, and always goes and gets Earl when it’s time for dinner. Once Carole fell in the middle of the street when she and Oz were getting the mail. She accidentally dropped his leash. He sat right beside her on full alert while she was waiting for help and didn’t move until she was up again and ready to go in. What a good dog!

A Little History: Did You Know? For much of the early days in the Highlands there were very few trees. Here is a picture of Uintah Drive showing the Kelly’s, Boudrero’s and Hardy’s homes. Today you can hardly see these homes as they are hidden behind beautiful mature evergreens.

Preparing for Winter. We are blessed to enjoy four seasons in the Highlands, each with its own incredible beauty. And winter is fast approaching! As we contemplate last year's record-breaking snowfall, there are lessons learned and likely some adjustments for all homeowners. We learned that Mother Nature is powerful and that in emergencies our Highlands neighbors come through for one another. We also learned ways to try to clear snow from our roofs and prevent ice dams. Prevention is important, because of the safety risk associated with having people on roofs. We can all proactively prepare now. If you would like help putting together your winter preparation plan, please contact Ron Blunck or Phil Ralphs who work with our Highlands emergency preparedness. If you need professional snow removal help this winter, here are some resources: Bowen Gines 801-628-2112, Tavish Wilkerson 385-410-6245, Bear Creek Roofing 801-440-6210, Ogden Snow Removal 801-658-9343.
